I had an H4 for Christmas from my kids and I have been unable to locate a satellite yet.

    Got this from Support:

    Sorry to hear this.

Has this always happened? Is this on a certain course or multiple courses?

Could you please try re-boot the device for me and this will hopefully resolve the issue. To do this we will revert the firmware to the factory setting.

To revert the firmware on the device to the original 'golden firmware' please follow the instructions below:

    1. Make sure the device is turned off. If you cannot turn the device off normally then please hold the top left button down for 15-20 seconds.
    2. With the screen off, hold down the bottom left and right buttons.
    3. Whilst still holding down those buttons, press the top left button once and then release. A H4 logo should appear on the screen. If this does not appear then start from the beginning.
    4. Continue to hold down these two bottom buttons for 40 seconds. This should reset the firmware.
    5. After this is done, connect the device to the mobile app and update the firmware/go through on boarding. It is very important to do this straight after the reset.

If this process does not fully work the first time, please try a few more times. This can sometimes take a few tries.

David, I too bought the H4 recently and have never got close to finding GPS nevermind the no course in 1 km message. Shots ope support was prompt with the exact same message you received. Have tried it 5 times now (painfully tedious process) and still no change. I have come back overseas for the new school term so I can't even send it back. Regretting moving from Garmin

I have been unable to locate a GPS signal. I have reset the firmware and re-paired over 20 times. Has anyone been able to resolve this issue?

    Hi Daniel,

If you have tried what David Weeks posted (advice from support), which it sounds like you have, then you may be in the same boat I was in a few months back. The telltale for me was that the search for gps screen only lasted about 6 seconds then it switched back to the select format screen (instead of endlessly searching). The issue of my H4 could not be resolved and always deemed a critical failure out of the box. The agent at Shotscope had me send the unit on its own to him even though I bought it off Amazon. They sent me a new H4 product immediately and it has worked perfectly. So happy I stayed with Shotscope (and love the tap function) rather than the auto identify of the watch versions.

    Hope that helps.

Steve, thank you for your detailed reply. I am also seeing the ~6 sec search before reverting to the H4 screen. I am currently awaiting contact from the support team.

Steve, I'm having the same issue. Had it a couple of times in the past, since bought device 6minths ago. Today on the course after endlessly switching it on and off and pushing play button, it found course after 1hour and 40 minutes. I've now reset firmware and see what will happen tomorrow!

Success today! Device found course in a couple of minutes.

Once again H4 Gould not find GPS! After going through all the above mentioned hacks on the course and endlessly pushing buttons, the gps came on after 2 hours and 10 minutes after starting the 1st search. By this time I was on 9th hole!
I have again updated firmware after the round.
I am still waiting for any response from support from my 1st query........

I have this exact same issue.  Has anyone figured out the fix?  Cannot locate GPS, times out after about 10 sec and goes back to the original screen.  VERY frustrating, dont have any issues with my Garmin watch

@Hppyjohnlfe (and others on the thread)
I don't think there is a fix. Neither software update nor hardware as yet.

    To summarise:
My first unit never worked out of the box (6 second freeze and return) at the beginning of this year.

They sent me a brand new one.
The second unit worked for 2 mo ths or so flawlessly. Got on a flight to South Africa in July, arrived and then that unit started the 6 second freeze. The South African agents (Uncommon Golfer) were great and after getting the go ahead from UK HQ, have given me a third unit which (so far) works well.

So I am keeping fingers crossed. However if it happens again, I may have to switch tech.

So, that leaves me to wonder... Have any of you flown with your units? I live in Egypt so my first unit came to me by plane. My second unit also came over by plane but worked at first. Then I took a plane trip to SA. Is it maybe affected by airport scanners?

I don't know. I hope Shotscope are working on a fix

Thanks for the reply Steve.  I haven't flown with the H4, bought as a package with the Pro LX.  Hopefully someone from Shotscope will contact me to resolve.  Take care

    @hppyjohnlfe
I hope you found a suitable resolution.
To update the thread on my journey, the 3rd H4 in 9 months failed with the same issue (reverting to format select screen after 6-8 seconds of searching for GPS).
Once again, Andy from Shotscope was understanding. However this time I he said they thought they had found the issue. This was in September. I asked him to keep me in the loop.
I contacted him again in October to see what progress there had been on an OTA software fix. Unfortunately he said that attempts to fix it were on hold because of more pressing issues with the X5. He added that it could be a few months more to wait.

To his credit, he offered a fourth H4 which I will receive on Sunday.

My summary after 11 months as a Shotscope client.

    1. The team who try to help at Shotscope are doing their best. They don't argue, they support and the genuinely want to see progress.

    2. There are critical software or hardware issues with the H4 and maybe the X5. These are a genuine surprise after the success of the V3. I will give them more time to figure this out even though it is coming up on a year. I believe that of the H4 is deemed problematic, they will be good enough to replace my fourth one with an H5 when that comes into play.
